UEMS Angiology & Vascular Medicine Division represented at the 1st UEMS Congress

The UEMS Angiology & Vascular Medicine (A/VM) Division was represented at the 1st UEMS Congress in Leuven by Prof. Isabelle Quéré, Chair of the Division, Prof. Dan Olinic, former Chair of the Division, and Prof. Mislav Vrsalovic, Treasurer.
Their participation provided an opportunity to present the Division’s work, activities and ongoing efforts to advance Angiology and Vascular Medicine across Europe, while strengthening its links with the wider UEMS community.
The meeting was also an excellent opportunity to connect with colleagues and representatives from across Europe, exchange ideas and explore opportunities for closer collaboration within UEMS.
The A/VM Division was very pleased to meet so many colleagues during this first UEMS Congress and looks forward to developing further collaboration and joint initiatives to strengthen the specialty, education and professional opportunities in Angiology and Vascular Medicine across Europe.

UEMS Angiology & Vascular Medicine Division Meeting in Lausanne

The UEMS Angiology & Vascular Medicine (A/VM) Division held an in-person meeting in Lausanne on 16 April 2026, bringing together members of the Division to discuss the future development and recognition of Angiology and Vascular Medicine across Europe.
A key part of the meeting was the presentation of the preliminary results of the European A/VM survey, providing an overview of the current status of specialty recognition, training pathways and organisation of vascular medicine across participating countries. The results highlighted the diversity of national frameworks and the importance of developing a coherent and inclusive European approach.
This meeting marked an important step in building a structured, inclusive and forward-looking European framework for Angiology and Vascular Medicine.
European Survey on Angiology & Vascular Medicine
In March 2026, the UEMS Angiology & Vascular Medicine Division launched a European survey to map the recognition, training pathways, workforce and clinical scope of Angiology and Vascular Medicine across Europe. The preliminary results highlight the diversity of national systems, with A/VM recognised as an independent specialty in some countries, while in others it is organised as a subspecialty or is not formally recognised. These findings provide an important baseline for the Division’s future work to promote greater visibility, harmonisation of training standards and recognition of Angiology & Vascular Medicine across Europe. The survey remains ongoing, and the results will be updated as additional countries contribute their data.
