Who we are
he UEMS Division of Angiology & Vascular Medicine is the body within the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) responsible for Angiology/Vascular Medicine — a specialty derived from the common trunk of internal medicine, dealing with arterial, venous, lymphatic and microcirculatory disease. The Division was recognised within the UEMS in 2007.

Our activities
European Training Requirements (ETR)
Defining the standards for specialist medical training across Europe. Promote harmonisation, quality assurance, and implementation of these standards among European training centres and countries. Publishing and maintaining the European Training Requirements for A/VM.
Examination of Trainees
The European Board Examination in Angiology and Vascular Medicine (EBEAVM) provides a standardized assessment of specialist knowledge in accordance with UEMS-CESMA quality standards. Successful candidates are awarded the European Diploma in Angiology and Vascular Medicine, recognizing excellence and competence at the European level.
Accrediting European Training Centres.
Evaluating and officially recognizing training centres that meet agreed European standards for education, quality assurance, and professional development.

A/VM training in Europe traces back to the European Working Group on Medical Angiology (EWGMA)
Recognition of the Division
A/VM recognised as a Division within the UEMS
Exam Board
Following UEMS-CESMA guidance, a European Board for the Exam in A/VM was established.
First ETR
First European Training Requirements (ETR) document for A/VM approved by the UEMS Council and published.
Training Centre accreditation
The European Training Centre validation and accreditation programme was established, with the first centres accredited.
Updated ETR
Updated ETR document accepted by UEMS Council (October 2021) and published (June 2022) — the current standard, endorsed by VAS and ESVM.
Present
Continued development of European education, assessment and accreditation.
